Accident Details
The airplane overran runway 08 during landing and impacted terrain. The runway was 2,272 feet long and 33 feet wide, with an asphalt surface. The aircraft came to a stop after striking a dirt pile beyond the runway end.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that during the first approach to runway 08, he "felt a little fast so went around and set up for short field approach." On the second approach, the airplane landed "on or shortly after the numbers." The pilot reported that the braking was "inadequate" during the landing roll.
Witness Account
A witness reported that the pilot "landed with a tailwind" and that the "windsock [was] fully extended" at the time of the accident.
Weather and Conditions
Wind conditions reported at various airports surrounding the accident site were from 250 to 260 degrees true at 7 to 9 knots.
Post-Accident Inspection
An examination of the braking system after the accident revealed no anomalies. All serviceable components were found to be within operational limits.
