Accident Details
The pilot performed a gear-up forced landing after experiencing a loss of engine power while cruising. The aircraft came to rest in an open dirt field approximately 0.4 miles north-northeast of Jean's runway 20R. Upon sliding to a stop on uneven terrain, the aircraft sustained structural damage.
Pilot's Account
The pilot reported that during en route flight, the fuel in the right wing's fuel tank became exhausted. He then repositioned the fuel selector to draw fuel from the left main fuel tank. Approximately ten minutes later, all engine power was lost.
Response and Attempts
The pilot advised an air traffic controller that he would divert to the Jean airport, which is uncontrolled. The pilot attempted to restart the engine but was unsuccessful.
