Accident Overview
A pilot reported that he had recently purchased an airplane in Greenville, Mississippi. The aircraft had not been flown for several years prior to the purchase. An annual inspection was completed on July 15, 2007. On the morning of the accident, the pilot departed Greenville for a cross-country flight to his home in California.
The accident occurred during the landing on the final leg of the flight. As the airplane touched down and rolled out, the right main landing gear collapsed. The pilot was unable to maintain directional control, and the airplane departed the right side of the runway, subsequently colliding with a fence.
Investigation Findings
The reason for the collapse of the right main landing gear was not determined during the investigation.
