Incident Summary
During the initial takeoff climb, at an altitude of 300 feet above ground level, the right engine experienced a partial loss of power. The pilot attempted to return and land at the airport but was forced to execute a landing in a field adjacent to the airport. Post-accident examination of the airframe revealed that the forward and rear spars of the right wing were bent upward.
Examination Findings
Inspection of the right engine identified that the number 6 cylinder exhaust gasket was practically missing. Additionally, the lower spark plug lead on the number 6 cylinder was damaged and had separated from the spark plug. The magneto P-lead was also damaged. These issues resulted in a partial loss of engine power.
Maintenance History
A review of the aircraft's maintenance records indicated that the exhaust gaskets on the right engine for cylinders 2, 4, and 6 had been replaced approximately 4 hours prior to the accident. The reason for the failure of the exhaust gasket was not determined.
