Accident Sequence
During the engine run-up prior to departure from runway 31, the pilot reduced the fuel mixture to clear the plugs. A subsequent run-up check revealed no discrepancies. Shortly after takeoff, the engine began to misfire. It smoothed out momentarily then misfired again, after which the propeller stopped. The aircraft contacted power lines, which separated, then impacted onto a building's roof, causing damage to the building before coming to a stop. The occupants exited the aircraft without assistance.
Post-Accident Inspection
After the wreckage was recovered, a post-accident engine inspection and test run were completed. The inspection revealed that the fuel mixture control cable had broken, which cut off the fuel at the carburetor. When tested, the engine ran without any discrepancies.
