Accident Sequence
The helicopter pilot was conducting the final photo shoot in a series of six, targeting a boat. The boat lacked a functioning GPS, so speed coordination between the boat and helicopter operator relied on hand signals. During the shoot, the helicopter positioned itself in front of the boat, moving to the left with a slight right yaw, at an altitude of approximately 10 feet above the water. The boat was estimated to be traveling at 85 mph at that time.
Witness Account
Individuals on the boat reported observing the helicopter gradually descending until its skid made contact with the water.
Post-Accident Examination
Investigators examined the recovered airframe and engine. The examination revealed no evidence of preexisting abnormalities or malfunctions in the helicopter.
