What happened
On December 9, 2007, at approximately 17:30 Atlantic standard time, a Cessna T210, bearing Venezuelan registration YV-1221, was involved in a fatal accident near Guarico, Venezuela. The flight had originated from San Juan de Los Morros Airport earlier that day.
While operating under visual meteorological conditions, the aircraft collided with high-tension electrical power lines. Following the collision, the airplane impacted the ground, which resulted in a post-impact fire that destroyed the aircraft. The pilot and passenger sustained 2 fatal injuries.
The investigation
Information provided by the Venezuelan government indicated that the primary cause of the crash was the impact with electrical power lines. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident falls under the jurisdiction of the Government of Venezuela.
