Accident Details
On January 18, 2008, at 1000 local time, a Bell 206 L3 helicopter with Indian registration VT-DAK lost directional control while on approach to a helipad near Mysore, India. The helicopter was operated by Deccan Aviation under the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of India.
According to the pilot, at approximately 10 feet above the ground, the helicopter began an uncommanded right yaw. The pilot applied left anti-torque pedal, but it did not correct the yaw. The helicopter continued to spin to the right and contacted the ground with the left skid low before coming to rest on its left side. The helicopter sustained substantial damage. Four persons received minor injuries, and one person was not injured.
Investigation
Components of the tail rotor drive system and tail rotor assembly were removed and transported to Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas, for further examination. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accredited representative will attend and provide oversight for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India.
The accident is under the jurisdiction of and is under investigation by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India.
