What happened
On February 8, 2008, at 0830 UTC, a Bell 206B helicopter, registered as OE-XRH, was operating in the vicinity of Totes Gebirge, Austria. While maneuvering through the mountainous terrain, the aircraft struck a cableway cable. Following the strike, the helicopter impacted the terrain near the 8,251-foot mountain, which is located approximately 45 miles east of Salzburg. A fire occurred after the impact, consuming the cabin of the aircraft. There were 2 fatal injuries resulting from the accident.
At the time of the accident, weather conditions were within visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 135 degrees at 09 knots.
