What happened
On February 13, 2008, a Cessna 425, registration N67726, was taxiing for takeoff at an airport in Cahokia, Illinois. During the taxi phase, the aircraft impacted a runway sign. There were no injuries resulting from the event. The pilot reported that the aircraft experienced no mechanical malfunctions during the flight.
The investigation
The investigation noted that the airport had issued notices to airmen (NOTAMs) prior to the accident. These notices indicated that poor braking conditions were in effect due to approximately 1/4 inch of ice covering the runways and taxiways.
