What happened
On February 13, 2008, at approximately 1015 UTC, a Piper PA-18 Super Cub, registered as VH-OUS, collided mid-air with a Robinson R44 helicopter, registered as VH-ZDP. The accident occurred 54 kilometers northwest of Gascoyne Junction, Australia.
Both aircraft were engaged in goat-culling operations and had departed from Gascoyne Junction at approximately 0905. The weather conditions at the time of the collision were Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
The collision resulted in 2 fatal injuries, involving the pilot and passenger of the Piper aircraft. The pilot and passenger of the Robinson helicopter were not injured. Both the airplane and the helicopter sustained substantial damage.
