Accident Overview
On March 2, 2008, at 1443 coordinated universal time, a Cirrus Design Corporation SR-22 aircraft, registered in Brazil as PR-AIO, was destroyed when it impacted terrain shortly after takeoff from Jacarepagua Airport (SBJT) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The pilot and three passengers sustained fatal injuries. The flight was conducted under Brazilian flight regulations.
Flight Details
According to preliminary information provided by the Brazilian government, shortly after departing from runway 20, the airplane's engine lost power. The airplane subsequently struck a building and exploded. Further investigation revealed that prior to the accident flight, the aircraft had been refueled with JET A-1 fuel instead of the required gasoline.
