During a crosswind landing, the pilot applied rudder and aileron corrections, then initiated a go-around with full throttle. The airplane settled east of the runway into grass, sustaining buckled wings and separated left main and nose landing gears.

Accident Sequence

While attempting to land in crosswind conditions, the pilot made control inputs with rudder and aileron to correct for the crosswind. As the pilot continued correcting for crosswind and gusts, he applied full throttle to execute a go-around. During this maneuver, the airplane settled to the east of the runway and entered the grass area.

Aircraft Examination

An examination of the airplane revealed structural damage: the wings were buckled, and both the left main landing gear and the nose landing gear had separated from the aircraft. Examination of the airplane's systems showed no anomalies.

Investigation Findings

The investigation documented the sequence of events as described. No preexisting mechanical issues were identified in the aircraft's systems. The accident resulted from the pilot's decision to go around during the crosswind landing, which led to the airplane leaving the runway surface.
