Accident Details
On April 15, 2008, a Hewa Bora Douglas DC-9-51, registered as 9Q-CHN, was involved in an accident during takeoff from runway 18. After aborting the takeoff, the aircraft overran the runway and crashed into a residential area. The aircraft was destroyed, and several residential buildings were also destroyed.
Occupants and Injuries
The aircraft carried 86 passengers and 8 crew members. Among the occupants, 3 passengers received fatal injuries, and 40 passengers received minor or serious injuries. On the ground, 37 persons received fatal injuries, and 71 persons received minor or serious injuries.
Investigation
The Republic of Congo is conducting the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has assigned an Accredited Representative to assist under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, as the United States is the Country of Manufacture and Design of the airplane.
