Hard Landing During Touch-and-Go Damages Cessna 172SP

Accident Details

A flight instructor and a student pilot were conducting touch-and-go landings in a Cessna 172SP. During one landing attempt, the airplane made hard contact with the runway. The student pilot immediately applied full power and aborted the landing. The flight instructor and student then flew the airplane to their home airport, where they performed an uneventful landing.

Damage

Subsequent examination of the airplane revealed substantial damage to the firewall and the landing gear. No other damage was reported.

Investigation

The flight instructor was the sole source of information regarding the event. The investigation did not provide any determination of probable cause.
