Accident Overview
On the afternoon of the accident, at approximately 5:00 PM local time, a Sikorsky S-92A helicopter, Korean registration HL9292 and serial number 920020, operated by Times Aerospace, was attempting to land on a helipad in Gapyeong, Republic of Korea. During the landing maneuver, the helicopter collided with trees and other ground obstacles. A post-crash fire ensued, completely consuming the aircraft.
Occupants and Injuries
The helicopter was carrying 16 persons on board. As a result of the accident, two individuals sustained serious injuries, and the remaining 14 occupants suffered minor injuries.
Investigation
The Korean Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) is conducting the investigation. In accordance with ICAO Annex 13, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has appointed an Accredited Representative, along with a specialist in helicopter operations, to assist the ARAIB. Technical advisors from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, and General Electric have also joined the investigative team.
