What happened
On September 1, 2008, a Piper PA-22, registration N7253D, was performing a landing at Star City, Arkansas, carrying three passengers. The pilot reported that he had overflew the airport and, based on visual observations, expected ground turbulence. During the landing roll, the aircraft encountered a gust of wind, causing the pilot to lose control. The aircraft subsequently departed the runway and fell off a 2-foot drop.
There were no injuries resulting from the accident.
The investigation
An examination of the aircraft revealed that the left wing spar and the left elevator were bent.
