Incident Details
A student pilot, flying a Cessna 172M, was conducting his third supervised solo flight. After departing the airport with a flight instructor, the pair flew to a fixed location and returned to the airport. They landed without incident, and the flight instructor exited the airplane. The student pilot then retrieved current weather information and departed again.
Sequence of Events
The student pilot flew back to the fixed location and turned back toward the airport. Air traffic control cleared him to land. The pilot later stated that the approach seemed "normal." The airplane touched down on the runway, then bounced once, possibly twice. During the bounced landing, the nose gear struck the runway with force. The nose wheel collapsed, and the airplane slid from the center of the runway to the left edge before coming to a stop.
