What happened
On January 14, 2009, a Brantly B-2B, registration N2252U, was attempting to land in a field located near the pilot's workshop in Cement, Oklahoma. During the final approach, the pilot was traveling at an excessive speed. In an effort to avoid overshooting the landing area and striking nearby power lines, the pilot executed a hard landing. Upon touchdown, the left skid dug into the ground, causing the helicopter to roll over. The accident resulted in one minor injury and no fatalities.
The investigation
An examination of the aircraft following the rollover revealed several points of structural damage. The three main rotor blades were damaged, the tail rotor blades sustained damage, and the tail boom was found to be bent.
