Narrative
A student pilot was conducting touch and go landings during a training flight. The accident occurred on the first such landing of the flight. According to the pilot, the approach was normal, but upon touchdown, the airplane bounced. It then touched down again on the left side of the runway. The airplane subsequently departed the left side of the runway, collided with a snowbank, and nosed over.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the vertical stabilizer and rudder. No other damage was reported.
Pilot Comments
In a written statement to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the pilot stated: "I should have either maintained directional control or done a go-around."
