Incident Overview
A pilot conducted a flight to regain currency after not having flown an airplane for six months. The pilot planned to perform a series of stop-and-go landings. The first landing was completed without incident. However, during the second approach, the pilot flared too high, causing the airplane to contact the runway in a nose-low attitude. The aircraft bounced and struck the runway again, also in a nose-low orientation.
Post-Landing Events
Following the hard landing, the pilot taxied the airplane off the runway and parked it. A subsequent structural examination revealed that the nose gear assembly was broken and the lower portion of the firewall was buckled.
Examination Findings
The damage was confined to the forward structure: the nose gear assembly failed, and the lower firewall sustained buckling. No other damage was reported.
