Accident Details
On April 9, 2009, a British Aerospace 146 operated by Aviastar crashed during a ferry flight. The aircraft was en route from Sentani Airport to Wamena Airport, both located in Indonesia's Papua province. The crash occurred when the aircraft struck Pikei Hill in the Tengah Mountain area, near Tangma in Yahukimo District.
Purpose of the Flight
The flight was carrying voting papers and other goods to Wamena, as a parliamentary election was scheduled to take place that month.
Crew and Fatalities
All six crew members on board were killed in the accident.
Wreckage Discovery
The wreckage was found on Pikei Hill, within the Tengah Mountain range, in the Tangma area of Yahukimo District.
