What happened
On June 9, 2009, at approximately 0235 UTC, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11, registration HZ-ANB, experienced a hard landing on runway 18 at Khartoum International Airport in Sudan. The aircraft, operated by Saudi Arabian Airlines as a cargo flight, was flying under instrument flight rules (IFR) from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
At the time of the accident, the weather was characterized by visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with winds from 190 degrees at 10 knots. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the airplane. The four crewmembers on board were not injured.
