What happened
On June 24, 2009, at approximately 1515 UTC, a Cessna 172A, registered as D-EBFO, was performing a missed approach at Piancada Airfield, located near Palazzolo dello Stella, Italy. During this maneuver, the aircraft experienced a loss of engine power.
The pilot performed a forced landing at the airfield, during which the aircraft struck the ground with significant force and subsequently nosed over. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. There were two pilots and one passenger on board the aircraft; all three occupants were not injured.
The flight had originated from Padova Airport (LIPU) in Italy and was traveling toward Portoroz Airport (LJPZ) in Slovenia.
