Accident Summary
The airline transport pilot was holding short of the runway and began taxiing onto the runway to initiate a takeoff from a standing start. As the airplane performed a 90-degree left turn, the right main landing gear collapsed when the aircraft was approximately halfway through the turn. The right wing and the right horizontal stabilizer subsequently struck the ground.
Damage and Injuries
The airplane sustained substantial damage. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.
Inspection Findings
An FAA inspector who responded to the accident scene reported that the pivot pin was missing from the bellcrank on the right main landing gear side brace lock link.
Maintenance History
According to maintenance records, the airplane had flown only four hours in the previous 40 months. In the nine days since the most recent annual inspection had been completed, the airplane had flown two hours.
