Landing and Braking
After touching down on a remote rough gravel airstrip, the pilot applied what he described as "hard braking" using the non-differential handbrake. He simultaneously attempted to maintain directional control with the nose wheel steering.
Loss of Control
As the landing roll progressed, the airplane began to skid or slip to the left side of the convex-shaped runway crown. It eventually departed the runway surface.
