What happened
On July 11, 2009, a Beechcraft A36 (registration N354RA) was traveling from Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada to Boa Vista International Airport in Brazil. At 1813, the pilot made the final radio contact with the Venezuelan Control Center, reporting a position 63 nautical miles north of Santa Elina de Uairen, Venezuela.
Following reports that the aircraft was overdue, search and rescue operations were conducted by authorities from both Brazil and Venezuela. On July 16, 2009, at approximately 1640 Atlantic standard time, the wreckage was located on the “Ilu – Tepuy” mountain within the Masizo del Roraima sector of Bolivar, Venezuela. The aircraft had impacted the side of the mountain at an estimated altitude of 8,200 feet above ground level. The accident resulted in 2 fatal injuries, as both the pilot and the passenger were killed. The aircraft was destroyed upon impact.
