What happened
On August 31, 2009, an Alon A2, registration N6363V, was performing a landing on Runway 06 at Richmond Heights, Ohio. The pilot reported that the approach, which involved a crosswind, was normal. However, just before touchdown, the aircraft ballooned to approximately 15 feet above the runway surface. Following this, the airplane descended heavily onto the runway and veered off the right side, where it struck a taxiway light. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft. There were no injuries reported.
The investigation
Investigators noted that local weather conditions at the time of the accident included visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 20 statute miles and winds from 340 degrees at 10 knots.
