What happened
On September 5, 2009, a PIPER PA-32-301, registration N117EM, was landing at a destination airport in Spicewood, Texas. The runway used for the landing was 30 feet wide. After the pilot applied the brakes during the landing roll, the aircraft performed a sharp left turn and exited the left side of the runway. The aircraft came to a stop in an upright position approximately 150 feet from the edge of the runway. There were no injuries resulting from the event.
The investigation
An inspection of the aircraft was conducted by a responding Federal Aviation Administration inspector. The examination of the controls and the braking system revealed no mechanical anomalies.
