What happened
On October 29, 2009, at approximately 1305 UTC, a Eurocopter AS350-B2 operated by Helinka was descending toward a remote landing zone in Loreto, Peru. During this descent, the aircraft, registered as OB-1909-P, suffered a total loss of engine power.
While attempting a forced landing, the helicopter struck trees. The flight had departed from a remote landing site in Loreto at 1235 UTC under visual meteorological conditions, with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds of 020/03kt. A visual flight rules flight plan had been filed for the flight.
The accident resulted in 2 fatalities, including the commercial pilot, and 1 serious injury to a passenger. One additional passenger sustained no injuries. The helicopter sustained substantial damage during the collision.
