Incident Overview
A pilot flying a tailwheel-equipped airplane experienced a loss of directional control during takeoff from runway 17 at an airport. The wind was reported as 050 degrees at 7 knots with gusts to 9 knots, despite the availability of runway 05. The airplane departed the runway surface to the left, entering a grassy area where it ground looped. The right wing sustained substantial damage.
