Incident Overview
On November 28, 2009, at 0816 local time, a Boeing/McDonnell Douglas MD-11 cargo aircraft, manufacturer serial number 48408 and registered in Zimbabwe as Z-BAV, operated by Avient Aviation, crashed while taking off from runway 35L at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, China. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and subsequent fire.
Casualties
The flight had seven crew members aboard. Three of them sustained fatal injuries, and four suffered serious injuries. No other individuals were involved.
Investigation
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is investigating the accident. No probable cause has been stated as of the time of reporting.
