Incident Overview
On December 17, 2009, a TAF Cargo Boeing 727, Brazilian registration PR-MTL, struck trees while on approach to Manaus Airport. The crew initiated a go-around and subsequently diverted to an alternate airport. The aircraft sustained damage to the leading edge, slats, and landing gear.
Investigation
The incident is being investigated by the Brazilian Centro de Investigação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronáuticos (CENIPA). In accordance with the provisions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative to participate in the investigation, given that the United States is the state of manufacture of the airplane.
