What happened
On December 30, 2009, at approximately 0618 UTC, a Cessna 185E, registration P2-MJL, performed a forced emergency landing in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea. The aircraft, operated by Kiunga Aviation, was performing a domestic flight from Lae Nadzab Airport to Baindoang when the pilot experienced a loss of oil pressure.
The aircraft impacted mountainous terrain approximately 1 nautical mile southwest of a remote airstrip in Baindoang. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire that destroyed the airplane. The accident resulted in 6 fatal injuries and 1 serious injury to the pilot.
