Accident Details
On December 30, 2009, at approximately 0618 UTC, a Cessna 185E airplane, registration P2-MJL, experienced a loss of oil pressure while in flight. The pilot performed a forced emergency landing on mountainous terrain roughly 1 nautical mile southwest of a remote airstrip in Baindoang, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. The aircraft had departed from Lae Nadzab Airport and was destined for Baindoang.

The airplane was a Cessna 185E, registered in Papua New Guinea as P2-MJL. It was operated by Kiunga Aviation, based in Lae, Papua New Guinea, as a domestic flight.
Injuries and Damage
The commercial certificated pilot sustained serious injuries. All six passengers on board were killed. The airplane was destroyed by a post-crash fire.

The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Papua New Guinea's Department of Transport, Air Transport Division.
