What happened
On January 4, 2010, at approximately 1300 Palau standard time, a Cessna 182P equipped with amphibian floats performed a hard landing on runway 09 at Palau International Airport, Republic of Palau. The aircraft, registration T8A182P, was operated by ABA Sky, Inc.
Following the impact, the airplane traveled approximately 200 feet down the runway before coming to a complete stop. There were no injuries reported among the commercial pilot or the three passengers on board. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.
The investigation
An examination of the aircraft's landing gear determined that the gear had collapsed into the floats during the landing event.
