Flight Description
The student pilot was performing his second solo flight. He initiated a touch-and-go landing. During the landing flare, he executed it late, resulting in a hard touchdown. The airplane bounced back into the air.
Accident Sequence
After the initial bounce, the airplane contacted the runway again and bounced a second time, then a third time. Following the third bounce, the nose landing gear collapsed. The airplane departed the left side of the runway, flipped over, and came to rest in an inverted position.
Damage
The accident caused substantial damage to the firewall, empennage, and wings.
Pilot Statement
The student pilot reported that he had not previously experienced a hard or bounced landing and did not attempt the proper recovery technique after the bounces began.
