Incident Overview
A glider pilot reported that during cruise flight, the aircraft encountered significant sinking air, which prevented the pilot from reaching the intended destination glider port. The pilot decided to conduct an off-field landing in a field.
Landing and Sequence of Events
During the landing roll, the left wing of the glider made contact with the ground. This contact caused the glider to turn to the left. As the glider turned, the tail assembly separated from the fuselage. The separation resulted in substantial damage to the tail structure.

According to the pilot, the decision to land off-field was prompted by the inability to maintain altitude to reach the glider port due to the sinking air encountered during cruise.
Damage Assessment
The tail assembly sustained substantial damage following its separation from the fuselage. The rest of the glider's structure was not reported to have additional damage beyond the tail section.
