Accident Details
A student pilot was landing a glider. The landing occurred on a runway, and the glider touched down slightly to the left of the runway centerline.
Sequence of Events
The student pilot engaged the brakes and steered the glider toward the right side of the runway in preparation for a turn. Upon approaching the taxiway entrance, the pilot released the brakes and initiated a left turn. During the turn, the left wing of the glider struck a runway sign. This impact caused the glider to make a sharp left turn, exit the runway surface, and come to rest on the grass adjacent to the runway.
Damage
As a result of the accident sequence, the left wing sustained substantial damage. No other damage was specified.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airframe that would have precluded normal operation.
