Incident Description
After conducting two touch-and-go landings at his home airport, a pilot attempted a full-stop landing on runway 28, a 3,472-foot strip. According to the pilot, he was unable to slow the airplane sufficiently before the end of the runway. The aircraft subsequently overran the departure end and came to rest in a wetlands area.
Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the engine, the leading edges of both wings, and the leading edge of the left horizontal stabilizer.
Pilot Comments
The pilot did not report any mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane. He stated that the brakes were functioning normally. His total flight experience was approximately 141 hours, of which about 6 hours were in the same make and model as the accident airplane.
Weather Conditions
At the time of the accident, winds recorded at an airport 18 miles southeast were from 010 degrees at 4 knots. No other weather conditions were reported in the pilot's account.
