What happened
On June 30, 2010, a Lake La-4-200 bearing registration N2990P was performing a local flight near Sequim, Washington. During the landing flare, the pilot reported being blinded by the sun as it emerged through a cloud layer. Following this encounter with sun glare, the aircraft exited the runway and entered a ditch. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage and the left wing. There were no injuries reported in the accident.
The investigation
The pilot stated that the flight prior to the landing was uneventful and reported that no mechanical failures or malfunctions occurred before the aircraft left the runway.
