Fuel Level Misindication
During preflight preparations, the pilot observed that the fuel gauges indicated a higher fuel quantity than expected. To verify the actual fuel level, the pilot requested a ladder from airport personnel. However, before conducting the visual check, the pilot became distracted and subsequently failed to inspect the fuel tanks.
Engine Power Loss and Forced Landing
After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of flight, the engine lost power. The pilot identified a suitable field for an emergency landing. During the landing flare, the airplane struck irrigation equipment present in the field.
Postaccident Inspection
Following the accident, an inspection of the airplane revealed that both fuel tanks were intact but completely empty. The wings and firewall sustained substantial damage.
