Incident Overview
A pilot reported that after completing an uneventful cross-country flight, he returned to the airport to practice landings. The first two landings were normal and uneventful. During the final approach of the third landing, the airplane encountered wind shear. Despite the pilot's control inputs, the airplane entered a nose dive and impacted the runway. After impact, the airplane slid approximately 40 feet, resulting in substantial damage to the firewall.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that no mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine occurred prior to the accident. He also mentioned that the accident could have been prevented by using a higher than normal airspeed in gusty wind conditions.

The accident airport's weather observation system reported wind from 300 degrees at 12 knots at the time of the accident.
