Embraer EMB-145XR Bird Strike at Salt Lake City International Airport (N14105)

Incident Overview and Flight Details On August 10, 2010, at approximately 1340 mountain daylight time, an Embraer EMB-145XR, registration N14105, owned and operated by Express Jet Airlines, collided with a large bird while on a downwind for a visual approach to Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah. The aircraft was conducting a scheduled passenger flight under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121. It had departed Houston-Bush Airport at 1136 central daylight time and was operating under an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan in visual meteorological conditions (VMC). The flight carried two flight crew members, two cabin crew members, and 46 passengers, none of whom were injured. However, the airplane sustained substantial damage from the impact.
