Accident Overview
On August 12, 2010, at approximately 0600 UTC, a Robinson R44 helicopter, registered as I-KOST, was involved in an accident while departing from a private field in Milazzo, on Salina Island, Italy. The flight, operated by Intesa Leasing, Rent and Fly, was conducted as a personal flight under visual meteorological conditions. No flight plan had been filed.
Sequence of Events
During the takeoff phase, the helicopter collided with a building and subsequently impacted the ground. The impact was followed by a post-crash fire that destroyed the aircraft.
Occupants and Damage
The helicopter carried a pilot and three passengers; all four occupants were killed. The aircraft sustained total destruction due to the fire.
Investigation
