Accident Narrative
A single-engine tailwheel-equipped airplane was being used for a hunting trip, with the pilot landing on a remote mountain ridge. After touchdown, the airplane bounced and became airborne again. The pilot applied full engine throttle to abort the landing. However, once clear of the ridge, the airplane began to settle. Moments later, the left wheel and left wingtip contacted sloping terrain, causing the airplane to nose over.
Pilot Statement
The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was able to exit the airplane unassisted following the mishap. The pilot later reported that no malfunction or failure had occurred with the airplane’s flight controls or engine during the event.
Damage Assessment
Both of the airplane’s wings sustained structural damage during the accident. No other damage or injuries were reported.
