Incident Overview
A commercial pilot was involved in a landing incident while operating a single-engine airplane. The pilot performed a three-point landing, but the aircraft touched down on the right side of the runway centerline. The landing was followed by a bounce, which caused the airplane to drift further to the right toward the edge of the runway.
Sequence of Events
After the bounce, the airplane continued its lateral movement. The right wing tip subsequently struck a fence post located near the runway boundary. The impact resulted in a crack in the wing spar, a critical structural component of the wing.
Pilot Report
In his post-accident account, the pilot stated that there were no mechanical deficiencies with the airplane prior to the accident. This indicates that the aircraft was functioning normally and that the event was precipitated by the landing circumstances.
