What happened
On December 8, 2010, at approximately 1442 UTC, a Piper PA-3ER-301T, registration N58SE, departed from runway 34 at Roma Urbe Airport (LIRU) in Rome, Italy. The flight was being conducted under visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 6 statute miles and winds of 000 degrees at 2 knots. A VFR local flight plan had been filed for the flight.
Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft collided with a bus depot. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire that consumed the airplane. The pilot, a certificated private pilot, sustained 1 fatal injury. There were no injuries reported to individuals on the ground.
