Incident Details
While on a solo cross-country flight, the student pilot initiated an approach to runway 18. To manage the wind, the pilot applied right aileron and left rudder. As the aircraft passed over the grass runway threshold, it encountered some turbulence, leading the pilot to increase engine power. The turbulence then subsided, and the landing was described as "soft and flat."
Landing Excursion
After the nose wheel touched down, the airplane swerved to the left. The student pilot overcorrected to the right, causing the airplane to veer sharply to the right. This resulted in the nose wheel and left wing striking a snow bank.
Damage and Examination
A post-incident examination of the aircraft showed that both wings were buckled. No mechanical anomalies or malfunctions were found.
