Accident Overview
The accident occurred during the landing rollout of a cross-country flight. The pilot reported that the touchdown was normal, but the airplane subsequently veered to the left and did not respond to rudder or aileron control inputs.
Pilot Account
According to the pilot, the landing was normal until the rollout began. The airplane then veered left, and the pilot was unable to correct the deviation using rudder or aileron controls. To avoid a pile of debris on the left side of the runway, the pilot applied full engine power. However, the airplane impacted the debris with its propeller, nose landing gear, and left main landing gear.
Postaccident Findings
A postaccident examination by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed that the left main landing gear tire was flat. Additionally, the left wing spar sustained substantial damage.
