Accident Description

A pilot was conducting a soft-field takeoff procedure in a light airplane. He initiated the takeoff roll with full engine power, full up elevator deflection, and one notch of wing flaps. The airplane initially accelerated down the center of the runway but began to pitch upward and simultaneously turn to the left. The pilot attempted to counteract the left turn by applying right rudder, but the airplane continued diverging toward the left side of the runway.

In a further effort to regain control, the pilot lowered the nose and reduced engine power. Despite these actions, the airplane veered off the left side of the runway, struck precision approach path indicator (PAPI) lights, and subsequently nosed over. The accident sequence ended with the airplane coming to rest in an inverted position.
